Joshua Esnard, the Inventor, Founder, & CEO of The Cut Buddy, came up with the original Cut Buddy Shaping Tool idea back in 2000 when he was just a 13 year old kid in Ithaca, New York. Like many teenagers, Joshua faced the struggle of trying to cut his hair at home, leading to uneven lines and inconsistent results. This frustration sparked the idea: What if there was a tool that could create perfect lines for both beard and head hair?
Joshua's first step was developing a prototype. His goal: a universal tool that made DIY haircuts look professional yet was easy and accessible. After years of relentless testing of various haircut and beard template shapes, Joshua finally perfected a design that worked for any head size or hairline shape.
It wasn't until 2015, fifteen years after creating his first stencil, he patented the original Cut Buddy Shaping Tool design, which he began selling from his garage. His innovation led to his appearance on Shark Tank in November 2017, securing an investment from Daymond John.
In 2019, Joshua elevated The Cut Buddy with a new and improved version, meeting the demands of the times, especially as COVID19 forced many barbershops and salons to close. This version's sales skyrocketed, with over one million units sold.
